The
disk has been specially designed for Land Rovers. It is made from
tough 10mm thick steel. It has a smaller diameter than a standard
drum and does not dangle below the transfer box to help protect
it from whatever you are driving over. The caliper mechanism sits
in a well protected area at the top, away from most of the mud
and water.
The new PTO version differs from the defender version in two ways.
Firstly, as you can see from the photogtaphs above, it uses a
different version of Back Plate which bolts to your transfer box.
It is rotated 30 degrees clockwise to avoid the PTO mounting flange.
Secondly,
the cable mounting bracket has been extensively redesigned to
move the cable up by up to 40mm. It is much more adjustable than
the previous version which allows more scope to get the cable
directly in line with the caliper operating lever.
All
models are now fitted with a skid plate to protect the disk from
tall rocks and tree-stumps. The plate is designed to be flexible
and to translate a force which would normally bend the disk backwards
into a radial force on the drive flange. The plate normally sits
3mm from the outside of the disk and will spring back after a
knock. If however it does not, it's easy enough to bend back down
- certainly easier than trying to straighten the disk!
