| X-Eng
are pleased to announce the introduction
of our Disk Handbrake conversion for Toyota 70 Series with Manual
Transmission. We will have a version for Automatic Transmission
Vehicles later in the year. |
 |
| X-Brake
Design |
| From
the outset, our X-Brakes were designed to be flexible.
In extreme conditions, it is designed to absorb the energy
of shock loadings in order to protect your transfer box.
After all, a bent X-Brake, though inconvenient, is a lot
better than ripping the back off your transfer box! |
We have designed the back plate to make it springy and
unlikely to bend permanently. It still protects your transfer
box, but is less likely to be damaged itself in extreme
circumstances. |
|
The
kit is supplied with a precision machined disk which bolts
between yout existing prop shaft and rear rtansfer box
output flange. The Toyota version is supplied with a new
cable which instead of connecting to the rear drum brakes,
connects directly to the caliper.
The original adjustment on the handbrake lever in the
cab is retained, but there is an additional adjustment
on the caliper end of the cable which increases the adjustment
life expectancy of the pads. |
|
|
Our
Disk Transmission Brake uses a state of the art monster size
mechanical caliper designed for agricultural vehicles and
earth moving equipment.
It
will out-perform the original wheel mounted drum brake and
is largely unaffected by water, mud or even oil.
By moving the park brake away from the wheel, it is not permanently
exposed to mud and water which results in significantly extended
brake pad life and reduced maintainance.
|
 |
The
mechanism is sealed so it will not seize up due to ingress of
mud or water and it uses special 'sintered' pads which are resistant
to abrasion from mud as well as providing greater friction against
the disk than a standard pad.
Replacement pads are readily available from us. We doubt however
that you will need any for many years.
The disk has been specially designed for Toyotas. It is machined
from tough 10mm thick steel. The caliper mechanism sits in a
well protected area at the top, away from most of the mud and
water.
|
|
|
It
will fit all Toyota 70 Series vehicles fitted with Manual
Transmission
|
| Do
I need to change the existing cable? |
|
Yes.
But we provide a replacement cable as part of the kit.
|
 |
Parts
are supplied coated with a tough corrosion resistant coating of
gold Zinc Passivate to ensure a long life. The Disk is not coated
as the brake pads are most efficient gripping on plain steel. The
light rubbing action of the pads quickly polishes the surface.
Fitting
is easy requiring only simple tools. Full
fitting instructions are included as well as advice on adjustment
and use.
| FAQ's |
| Q |
Does
this change the length of the prop shaft? |
| A |
Yes,
by the thickness of the disk (9.5mm). We supply longer bolts
to connect the prop shaft through the disk to the flange. |
| Q |
If
I park my Toyota in harsh Wintery conditions for long periods
of time will this new disc rust? |
| A |
It
will rust - but only to the same extent as the disk brakes on
your wheels. A small amount of rust is not a problem as it will
quickly be polished off by the brake pads. |
