We
have chosen a tranceiver which is ideal for use in an
off-road or agricultural environments. It is solidly built
and offer good sound quality in noisy environments. The
signal both sent and received will be clear and sharp

M-150 Plus |
 |
| The
M150 Plus is the same size as a standard (Din) car radio
- and using our Din adaptor kit can be mounted in the
same hole on your dash. Unusually, it features a front
mounted speaker. This provides much improved clarity over
the more traditional bottom mount. |
|
This
rig, is legal to use virtually everywhere in the world through
easily selectable modes. It can even operate on AM where
legal. If you are planning on off roading in outside the
UK, particularly if you want to communicate with other teams
- this is a must.
The rig is supplied with a good quality microphone. It has
a PA output (very useful for communicating with non radio
equipped people while winching). It has a bright, clear
LED display which is still visible in sunlight.
Although
this rig does not have as many flashing lights and gizmos
as some, it is built to do what a CB is supposed to - let
you communicate easily.
We have one of these in the X-Eng van and in our 110.

| Antennas
and Mountings - How to choose? |
|
Like
the rigs above, we have restricted our selection to
what actually works off road!
As you might expect, the longer the antenna, the better
it will perform.
A
simple base loaded whip will give better long term reliability
than some of the more fancy designs.
These
antennas are designed to work with a ground
plane. There are antennas out there which are designed
to work without a ground plane - but, in general these
will not work as well in this application.
Fortunately, most off road vehicles provide an ideal
ground plane. Roofs, bonnets and roll cages work very
well. A ground plane antenna mounted on the gutter,
roof or cage will work better than a non ground plane
antenna mounted somewhere else.

Trucker 80 | |
|
The
Trucker 80 has the best performace of all the short
antennas. It is ideal for demanding applications where
a longer whip may be damaged by trees etc.
It
is 89cm in length with a Stainless Steel whip.
The SWR
of this antenna is pre-tuned and will work well as soon
as it is installed.

Orbiter | |
|
If
out and out range is what you need - this is the one
for you.
Ideal
for convoy leaders, marshalling and safety. It is 155cm
long which is enough to pull in really weak stations.
The SWR
of this antenna is pre-tuned and will work well as soon
as it is installed.

| Cage
Mounting |
|
The
mounting pictured is ideal for mounting one of our anetnnas
to a roll cage. It will attach to any tube up to 2"
in diameter.
The kit is supplied with 4m of high quality coax cable
with pre-soldered plugs. |
| Gutter
Mounting |
|
|
This
mount works well on Defender, Discovery and Range Rovers
- particularly shiny ones which don't need any extra
holes in the roof!
|
| Body
Side Mounting |
|
|
This
could have been designed for Defenders!
It provides
a highly robust solution to mounting the antenna on
the back of your truck.
|
| Through
Mounting |
|
If
all else fails, just drill a hole in the roof or bonnet
and mount the antenna directly.
This through mount uses a low profile connector to minimise
the 'bulge' in your interior headlining.
These mountings are good value and can provide the best
ground plane for maximising range. |
