Is
spring dislocation worthwhile?
After
all, at the point your springs dislocate, there is barely
any weight pushing down on that wheel. How much traction is
it actually going to give you?
You
could just fit VERY long springs. By their very nature however,
these will either give you an enormous suspension lift, making
your truck unstable or they will be very soft and allow it
to hit the bump stops every time you drive over a pot-hole
|
 |
| .Now
at X-Eng, we have developed the answer! |
|
We
have developed the X-Spring - a telescopic spring combined
with a spring locator.
- You
get an extra 10" of sprung travel.
- At
the point your existing springs would dislocate, the inner
spring is still pushing down with 500Lbs of force.
- Unless
the axle is articulating, the inner spring is completly
enclosed in the dislocation cone.
- On
the road, you are only using your original springs. These
can be standard height, stiff springs to give you good road
handling.
- Protect
your investment in your existing springs and shocks - no
need to replace.
- A
fraction of the cost of certain other suspension systems.
- Still
uncertain? Look at the number of highly placed 'Twist off'
and challenge enterants running our kit.
- Fully
compatible with Front and Rear springs.
If
you do manage to run out of travel with these fitted, the
locators will freely expand giving an additional 5" of
travel. That is equivalent to a 27" spring plus 5"
dislocation or 32" of travel. To use all of this, you
would need +23" Shock Absorbers!
|
Many off-road springs have a reputation for sagging. Our inner
springs are made for us by a company with a world class reputation
in race & rally. They are made from top quality spring steel
(not re-cycled deck chairs!) and even though they spend most
of their life fully compressed, they will not sag - we guarantee
it!
Our springs have been thouroughly tested on and off road over
a 12 month period and have given amazing performance. We have
traversed cross-axles which would normally require front and
rear diff-locks with only the centre diff locked. |
 |
Although,
at first glance, you might think X-Springs will make your
vehicle less stable on side slopes or when cornering hard
- we have found it makes almost no difference.
The reason for this is that when you are normally articulating,
the vehicle rolls around the middle of the axle so either
spring is only lifting half the weight on that axle.
At
the point the X-Spring comes in to play, the main spring
on one side will be almost fully compressed so the body
rolls around the compressed spring. The X-Spring is therefore
lifting the equivalent of about 300% more weight for a given
amount of roll. This, combined with the X-Spring being much
weaker than the main spring means that it will only have
any effect when your spring would have dislocated anyway
and even then the additional body roll is neglegable.

| Will
these fit my 110 Rear? |
|
YES!
We have just launched our new X-Spring kit for 110's. The
kit includes two cast Aluminium adaptor rings which increase
the diameter of the original X-Spring top hat to be correct
for 110 rear springs. The adaptors are Anodised to prevent
electrolytic corrosion and carefully sculpted to fit our top-hat
adaptors.
|

Additionally, the rings are stackable and as such can be used
as a spring spacer, each adding 1cm to the height of the vehicle.
As a spacer, they are compatible with 90, 110, Discovery and
Range Rovers. |
